What is Tangbao
The name tangbao or tangbaozi refers to a large group of dumplings filled with steamed Chinese soup. Depending on its origin, it can often be made with leavened or plain dough that is wrapped around a gelatinous filling, twisted and topped off, and then steamed.
When steamed, the hard filling (usually made with minced pork or crab meat) turns into a delicious soup that stays safely in the dough. Due to the nature of this Chinese delicacy, they are always served immediately after steaming so the soup stays liquid and hot.
Because of its warm filling, tangbao should be consumed with caution and often a unique eating technique should be used. Sticks are used to hold the dough on top and a small piece is taken from the edge and the soup is poured into the large spoon held at the bottom.
